Walcon Marine Australasia was recently contracted to provide the design and supply of over 1,000 m² of boardwalk for the prestigious Discovery Rottnest Island, also known as Pinky Beach Eco Retreat, on Rottnest Island off the WA coast.
The company designed and supplied two types of boardwalks for this project. The main boardwalk is Walcon’s FRP Advantage Series which is a modular system constructed from fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP). The smaller boardwalk was constructed in aluminium and similar in design to Walcon’s floating pontoon system.
Both boardwalk systems were fabricated off site by our highly skilled team of fabricators, then shipped to Rottnest in pre-assembled modules for quick and easy installation on site. The lightweight, modular were able to be carried by hand and located on top of the footings.
In addition to the Advantage Series boardwalks, the project also consists of stairs and platform structures throughout the site. The stairs provide access into the accommodation and the platforms allow for events and parties to be held.
Finally, all boardwalk and platform structures were completed with low maintenance, cost-effective composite timber (WPC) decking.
Custom FRP and WPC colours were used throughout this project to tie in with the surrounding environment.
Discovery Rottnest Island opened in March, 2019, and has already been visited by the likes of Bob Geldof, Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon.
Walcon Marine are extremely proud to have been involved in this landmark, iconic project.
